Susan Backman is a graduate of the Connecticut Center for Massage Therapy in Westport, CT., Where she was awarded a diploma from the Clinical Massage Therapist Program, as well as a Certification of Excellence in recognition of Excellence in Community Service by the school administration.

The Clinical Massage Therapy Program consists of 1,040 hours of instruction over a 24 month period. In addition to the massage therapy and science classes, the program also has extensive courses in Business Practices, Ethics, and Eastern modalities including Acupressure (shiatsu).

Susan has represented the school as a course tutor in; Anatomy and Physiology I, II & III, Palpation lab, Clinical Pathology, Kinesiology, East-West Pathology and Neurology.

Susan has officiated as a course assistant in numerous Discovery Workshops at the Westport, CT school, as well as a course assistant in Anatomy and Physiology I. She is currently pursuing a teaching career at the school, and is a member of the AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) Connecticut chapter.

She is nationally certified through the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), CT licensed (License # 003195), and NY licensed ( License # 27-015696).

Susan is proficient in eight modalities which include: Classic western massage (Swedish), Cross- tissue massage, Trigger point work, Shiatsu (acupressure), sports/ remedial massage, myofascial, neuromuscular, and chair massage, as well as being CPR certified.

Susan has spent many years working in leadership rolls, including town beautification programs, women's issues, child welfare issues and scouting, where she is currently a co-leader to a wonderful Junior Girl Scout troop in her town.

In her practice, Susan integrates the daily activities of her clients with their crave of relaxation by studying ergonomics and posture in an effort to help alleviate overuse/ misuse strain on the body.

Her current interest in study includes (but not limited to) the correlation of massage and cancer patients as well as ADD/ADHD students.

Susan currently heads Connecticut Therapeutic Massage LLC in Danbury, CT.
